Richard Kinder – Morningstar’s CEO of the Year is a Dollar Richer
Morningstar’s CEO of the year Richard Kinder pipes plenty of value to shareholders. Kinder left Enron in 1996 after he and CEO Ken Lay disagreed over–among other things–whether the future of Enron lay in energy trading or in pipelines. Since then, Kinder Morgan Energy Partners has returned just under 30% annually to shareholders, and the firm has grown to become one of the largest pipeline operators in the country. Kinder himself has never received any options or restricted stock, his sizable interest in the company comes from his initial investment and additional shares purchased on the open market–and he receives $1 in salary. Morningstar has the full story.
